Editorial: Impact and Management of Marine Biofouling

چکیده
Biofouling, the accumulation of organisms on wetted surfaces, is a ubiquitous challenge for 12 submerged anthropogenic marine structures that can result in reduced efficiency, increased fuel 13 consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions from vessels. In addition, it causes weakening 14 corrosion maritime infrastructure, detrimental effects to aquaculture, translocation harmful 15 non-indigenous species. The impacts species (including macro micro-16 organisms) economic, environmental, socio-cultural values have led formation 17 national international regulations guidelines manage risks associated with vessel 18 biofouling pathway. 19 20The objective this Research Topic was address impact management 21 towards sustainable transportation energy, fill gaps literature, hence 22 contribute update evidence-based field (Figure 1). Marine biofouling: a sticky problem.
Organisms that colonise underwater surfaces, such as barnacle larvae and spores of algae, use a diverse array of biological 'glues' to provide both temporary and more permanent adhesion. The practical consequence of colonisation by these organisms is biofouling - something that has plagued mariners for years - causing increased drag and, in extreme cases, corrosion. Might there be a biological ...

Adhesive and marine biofouling release properties of coatings containing surface-oriented perfluoroalkyl groups were investigated. These coatings were prepared by cross-linking a copolymer of 1H,1H,2H,2H-heptadecafluorodecyl acrylate and acrylic acid with a copolymer of poly(2-isopropenyl-2-oxazoline) and methyl methacrylate at different molar ratios. The relationships between contact angle, co...

These days, many marine autonomous environment monitoring networks are set up in the world. These systems take advantage of existing superstructures such as offshore platforms, lightships, piers, breakwaters or are placed on specially designed buoys or underwater oceanographic structures. These systems commonly use various sensors to measure parameters such as dissolved oxygen, turbidity, condu...

Development of microbial biofilms and the recruitment of propagules on the surfaces of man-made structures in the marine environment cause serious problems for the navies and for marine industries around the world. Current antifouling technology is based on the application of toxic substances that can be harmful to the natural environment. For this reason and the global ban of tributyl tin (TBT...
